Our commitment to the planet
We live in a time of remarkable technological progress—AI, space exploration, Web3, and the connected power of billions of devices. Yet, despite all of this advancement, we’re still reckoning with one truth: our planet is in crisis, and we are responsible.
Since the Industrial Revolution, human activity has been the leading driver of climate change. Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas has released unprecedented levels of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, while our increasing reliance on plastics and other non-biodegradable materials has caused a mounting waste problem. Our landfills are overflowing, our oceans are choking, and biodiversity is rapidly declining.
As Sir David Attenborough said at COP26:
“If working apart we are a force powerful enough to destabilise our planet, surely working together we are powerful enough to save it.”
This is the ethos we hold close. Progress should not come at the expense of the Earth. We believe in building digital experiences that are not only performant and scalable but also conscious of their environmental footprint. We aim to be part of the solution—tech for good, in the truest sense.
Our sustainability approach
Our digital stack is modern, modular, and sustainable. We use Sanity.io as our headless CMS of choice, which empowers structured content delivery, optimised rendering, and less data bloat — factors that directly contribute to a faster, more efficient web.
In tandem, we host and deploy through Vercel, backed by AWS, which is on track to run 100% on renewable energy by 2025.
But our commitment doesn’t stop at clean code and green hosting. We’ve embedded environmental responsibility into our business itself. Here’s how:
1. We’re carbon neutral—and working toward carbon negative
Through Ecologi, we offset our carbon footprint every month by supporting vetted climate projects around the globe.
Previously, we supported One Tree Planted, an amazing non-profit that restores forests and biodiversity, and we still admire the work they do.
From reducing the carbon footprint of our travel and operations to minimising unnecessary energy consumption across our team’s devices and cloud workloads, we’re aiming to not just neutralise but eventually reverse our impact.
2. We support planet-first initiatives
The Ocean Cleanup
Plastic pollution in the ocean is one of the most urgent and visible environmental crises of our time. That’s why we support The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organisation pioneering advanced technologies to remove plastic waste from the world’s oceans and intercept it before it ever reaches open water.
Their approach is twofold: cleaning up the existing plastic in ocean gyres and stopping the flow at the source through river-based systems. Their systems are already making an impact in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and in rivers across the globe. By backing their mission, we’re helping protect marine life, preserve biodiversity, and work toward a future where oceans are free of plastic waste.

One Tree Planted (legacy supporter)
Before partnering with Ecologi, we supported One Tree Planted, a non-profit dedicated to global reforestation. Their mission is simple but powerful: one dollar, one tree. From the Amazon to Appalachia, their work helps restore ecosystems, promote biodiversity, support local communities, and combat climate change at scale.
Trees play a critical role in maintaining our planet’s health—from filtering the air and regulating temperature, to providing habitat for wildlife and improving water quality. Our donations helped One Tree Planted fund tree-planting initiatives around the world, and while we’ve evolved our sustainability focus, we remain deeply aligned with their mission and continue to recommend their work.

Ecologi (current partner)
We are proud to partner with Ecologi, an organisation that helps businesses like ours take meaningful, measurable action against climate change. Each month, our contributions fund projects that include global reforestation, renewable energy development, and methane reduction—addressing both the causes and effects of carbon pollution.
Ecologi also provides a transparent public profile so we—and our customers—can track the real impact being made, from trees planted to tonnes of carbon offset. It’s not just about balancing emissions; it’s about reversing them. Supporting Ecologi allows us to be proactive in our climate strategy while championing innovation-led environmental solutions.
3. A Greener Web Starts With Us
It’s easy to forget that the internet—the very thing we build for—is one of the world’s largest energy consumers.
Every image, video, font file, and script that gets downloaded burns energy. Every unnecessary render cycle adds up. The web may be invisible, but its environmental footprint is very real.
“The digital ecosystem now produces more emissions than the entire airline industry.”
That’s why we champion performance-first, low-impact development:
- We build lightweight, lazy-loaded, accessibility-compliant sites and apps.
- We prioritise clean HTML/CSS, avoid bloated frameworks, and use modern tooling like Next.js and Vercel for optimal speed and green deployment.
- Our CMS—Sanity.io—enables structured content delivery, reducing unnecessary payload and accelerating time to first paint (TTFP), further reducing power use per session.
Final thoughts
We’re not perfect. But perfection isn’t the point—progress is.
Our responsibility as creators, developers, designers, and digital citizens is to build with intention. We believe in crafting beautiful digital experiences that serve both people and the planet. We believe technology can be both cutting-edge and compassionate. And we believe that every line of code we write today should lead us toward a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
As Sir David Attenborough reminded us:
“Surely working together we are powerful enough to save it.”
We intend to do our part—and more. As a modern digital company, we recognise that our responsibility extends far beyond clean design or efficient code. It means asking difficult questions about the impact of our work, holding ourselves accountable to higher standards, and using our platform to drive change where it matters most. Whether it’s through thoughtful infrastructure choices, carbon offsetting, or aligning with partners who are actively reshaping the planet’s future, we are committed to embedding sustainability into every layer of our business. The work is ongoing, and we’re under no illusion that it will be easy. But with intention, transparency, and collective action, we believe a better, cleaner, and more equitable digital future is within reach.
